The interface
Every panel, button and dialog in the editor, by the name you see on screen.
Start screen

| Tile | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Start a new map | Opens Choose a scenario. Import a file and Copy from a link sit with it. |

See tutorials and scenarios for what each card starts you with.
Header
Left to right: the round glass chips are navigation and history, then your open tabs, then the three coloured action pills. Anything else lives behind the ⋯ menu at the end.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Home | Back to the start screen and your maps. |
| Undo / Redo | Takes back your last action, or puts it back. Names it on hover. |
| Asset library | Shows every asset in your map on one big page. Click a tab or the scene button to go back. |
| + | Create: make a new lore, lore collection or personality. |
| Scene button | The scene you're editing. Click to go back to it; the arrow switches or adds scenes. |
| Tabs | One tab per open asset. Chevrons appear when the strip runs out of room. |
| Play | Plays the open map in the installed Robotopia client. |
| Collaborate | Hands out a link to this same map, for editing alongside you. |
| Publish | Puts your map on a public page. On a map you do not own it reads Make a copy. |
| ⋯ | Documentation, dark/light theme, Download as .roboworld, and Log out. |
An asset is something your map uses, like a 3D model, a voice or a block of text. A scene is one place in your map; a map can have several. See the glossary for more words.
Left sidebar
- Scene Objects — every entity (anything placed in the scene), as a list you can fold open. Click one to pick it, drag it onto another to put it inside, and press + to add a model or prefab. Entities inside a group sit under it and fold away.
- Library — the assets in your map, each on a card with a picture of itself. Models and prefabs are the two types that go straight into a scene; the chips along the top and the search box narrow it further.
Fold the whole sidebar away with the handle at its edge, or drag the handle to make it wider.
Viewport
The 3D view of your scene.
- Click an entity to pick it. Click the same spot again to pick the next entity underneath, for example one piece inside a group.
- Shift+click adds more entities to what you've picked.
When you pick something, a row of buttons appears under it:
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Focus | Moves the camera to look at what you picked. |
| Move | Drag to move it. |
| Rotate | Drag to turn it. |
| Scale | Drag to make it bigger or smaller. |
| Duplicate | Makes a copy and picks the copy. |
| Delete | Removes it. |
The arrange toolbar sits alongside them, growing as you select more — see tools and arranging.
Two round buttons always stay in the viewport:
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Grid snapping | Turns the grid on or off. See snapping. |
| Box select | Press it, then drag a box to pick everything the box touches. Hold Shift to add. |
Right pane — inspector
The Inspector shows what you picked and lets you change it.
At the top is the entity's name. Under it are its components — the pieces that give an entity a look or a behaviour, like a body or a voice. Each one has its own settings, and Add component adds another. See components for every one.
Settings that take an asset open the asset search when you click them, filtered to what that field accepts. A material field is a row of swatches instead — one per colour that fits the slot, plus Default.
With nothing selected it shows the map itself instead:
- Preview — the picture used on your map card and on the published page, with Automatic (frame the whole map) and This view (take the editor camera as it is now).
- Map Title and Description — what a player reads before clicking. The description is capped at 500 characters.
- Scene Name, and the Environment picker — dawn, day, sunset or night, per scene.
This pane folds away too, with the arrow at its edge.
Dialogs
A dialog is a box that pops up over the editor.
| Dialog | When you see it |
|---|---|
| Loading | On open, until the map is ready to show. |
| Authentication Required | Before you can create anything. |
| Choose a scenario | From Start a new map: the built place your new map starts as. |
| Create / Add asset | From +, or from any asset field in the inspector. |
| Share | From Collaborate or Publish — each pill opens it on its own step. |
| Not ready yet | When Play or Download is blocked, listing what to fix. |
| Are you sure? | Before a map is destroyed. |
Moving the camera
| Input | What it does |
|---|---|
| Drag | Swings the view around the spot you're looking at. |
| Right-drag | Looks around without moving. |
| Shift+drag | Slides the view sideways or up and down. |
| Scroll | Moves closer or further away. |
Hold right button + WASD | Flies forward, back, left and right. |
| Hold right button + arrows | The same, with the arrow keys. |
Hold right button + Q / E | Flies straight down or up. |
…and hold Shift | Flies faster. |
To fly, hold the right mouse button: moving the mouse turns your head, and the keys move you. When you let go, a normal drag swings around the spot you were looking at.
You fly faster when you're far away and slower up close, so the same keys work for crossing a city and for placing a chair. Flying needs a right mouse button. On a trackpad without one, use Shift+drag and scroll.
Keyboard shortcuts
| Keys | What it does |
|---|---|
Ctrl+Z (⌘Z on a Mac) | Undo |

Plus the camera keys above. Everything else is a button. See what's not possible yet.
