What's not possible yet

Robotopia is in alpha, and the editor is still young. Here's what it can't do yet, so you find out now and not an hour into building.

Undo only goes back so far

Undo and redo cover your scene edits, but the history is fifty steps deep, lives in this tab only, and is gone after a reload. Download a .roboworld before any large rework — that is the restore point undo is not.

The only keyboard shortcuts are undo, redo and the camera keys. Everything else is a button.

You can't add your own models, sounds or pictures

You build with what comes with the editor: the city and sewer kits, the robot parts and their accessory packs, 18 colours and 25 voicesets. Import a file on the start screen loads whole maps, not single models.

What you can make is text: lore, lore collections and personalities, from + in the header. That's where you can be most original.

No scripting or logic

There's no code and no logic blocks. What your entities (anything placed in your map) do comes from the components you add and the text you write.

Some components exist but are hidden until they're finished: Teleport, Toggle Trigger, Grabbable, Event Trigger and Kill Trigger. So doors, pickups and puzzles aren't possible yet.

One player at a time

Only one person plays a published map at a time. Collaborate is for building together, not playing together.

No unpublish button

You can publish a map again as often as you like. To take one down, ask on Discord.

Four skies, and no terrain

Lighting comes as four presets per scene — dawn, day, sunset, night — in the inspector with nothing selected. That is the whole of it: no individual lights, no weather, no clock.

You also can't shape the ground into hills or valleys.

Build on a computer

The editor works in any up-to-date browser, but it needs a keyboard, a mouse and a big enough screen. The side panels fold away on small screens, but building on a phone isn't really possible. The game itself runs on phones.

Tutorials and scenarios do not update

Your copy is yours from the moment you open it. Later improvements to the tutorial or scenario you started from will not reach it, and nothing you do can reach back.
