Getting started
Open the editor
The editor runs in the browser — there is nothing to install. Go to robotopia.gg/editor.
You need a Discord account to create anything, so until you are signed in a panel covers the window and nothing behind it responds. Click Continue with Discord and you come straight back. The account is what saves your maps, lets you share them, reaches community assets, and lets you pick the same map up on another device.
Then you land on the start screen — unless you followed someone's link to a map, which opens straight into the editor.
To play what you build, you also need the Robotopia game installed.
The start screen
Before a map is open you see your maps. From here you can:
- Start a new map. This asks Choose a scenario first — a built place to work in, from a bare floor to a city block. See tutorials and scenarios.
- Open a tutorial from the Tutorials tile. Each one is a small finished map that teaches one thing, and opening it gives you your own copy — you cannot damage the original.
- Open a map you made earlier, under Your maps. Maps shared with you are under Shared maps.
- Import a file: open a map saved as a file (
.roboworld,.jsonor.json.gz). - Copy from a link: paste the link of a published map to get your own copy of it.
Find your way around
When a map opens, the screen has three parts:
| Where | What it is |
|---|---|
| Left side | A list of everything in your map, and below it the library: pieces you drag into your map. |
| Middle | The viewport: the 3D view of your map. Click an entity (anything placed in your map) here to pick it. |
| Right side | The inspector: the settings of whatever you picked. |
On a small screen, you can fold the side panels away to get more room.
The header holds the buttons you reach for most: Home, undo and redo, your open tabs, + (Create) to make a personality, a lore or a lore collection, and the three action pills — Play, Collaborate and Publish. The ⋯ menu at the end has the theme toggle, the download, and log out.
Every button and panel is listed in the interface.
Saving
You don't need to save. Your map saves itself every time you change something, and anyone building with you sees the change straight away.
Want a copy on your computer as a backup? Use Download as .roboworld in the ⋯ menu.
Next: start from a tutorial or scenario, or build a small map step by step.
