Troubleshooting
Find what's going wrong, and how to fix it.
Play, Publish or Download won't work
Your map has a problem the editor found. Play and Download open a Not ready yet window listing the problems; Publish lists them in its own window.
To fix them:
- Close the window. From Not ready yet, press Back to editing and the list opens at the bottom of the editor.
- Click a problem in that list. The editor picks the entity (anything placed in your map) that has it.
- In the Inspector, pick something else for the broken field, or clear it.
Every problem is a field pointing at something that isn't there:
| What it says | What happened |
|---|---|
| refers to a non-existing entity | The entity this field pointed at was deleted. |
| refers to itself | The field points back at the entity it's on. |
| refers to missing asset | The model, voice, lore or personality it used isn't there now. |
A missing asset usually means you deleted something that was still in use, or the map came from someone else and uses something you don't have.
When the list is empty, try again. In the publish window, Publish turns back on by itself.
Publish says "Go fix your texts"
Some words in your map weren't allowed: in a name, description, bio or lore. Press Go fix your texts, change the words, and publish again. Nothing else is wrong.
Publish fails partway
This is almost always your internet connection. Reconnect and press Retry.
The Publish button says "Make a copy"
Only the map's owner can publish. If a friend sent you a Collaborate link, you're working on their map. Press Make a copy to get your own, then publish that.
A robot doesn't answer
Check these, in order:
- It has an Agent component. Without one it is a statue. A prefab robot has one already.
- Its Personality is set. That is where the bio and knowledge live, and an empty one leaves the robot with nothing to be.
- Its Voice is set, or its body brings one. You will not hear anything in the editor either way — voices only exist in the game.
If a robot answers but badly, the fix is in the writing. See writing personalities that behave.
A robot knows things it shouldn't
It's making things up to fill the gaps. Write the limits into its bio: where it has never been, what it has never seen. Put facts that every robot in a place should know into lore they all share.
Changing a robot's colour does nothing
copbot is a single baked mesh, so the Plastic and Metal swatches on Humanoid Body Parts have nothing to act on. Place the Copbot prefab instead — it pairs the model with an Agent, which is the wiring that mesh wants. Swatches work on robots built from the part set: Robot and MuniciPal Robot.
I deleted something by accident
Press undo in the header, or Ctrl+Z. It restores the entities that action touched, including their components.
Two cases it cannot help with: something deleted more than fifty actions ago, and anything from before a reload — the history is per-tab and does not survive one. There, an earlier .roboworld download is the only way back, which is why one is worth taking before any large rework.
I can't find the Save button
There isn't one. Your map saves itself as you work, for you and anyone on a Collaborate link. To keep a copy as a file, use Download as .roboworld in the ⋯ menu.
Someone changed my map
Anyone with your Collaborate link can edit and delete anything in your map, live. That's why the editor asks you to confirm you trust people before it gives you the link.
The editor won't load, or looks wrong
- Reload the page.
- Try an up-to-date Chrome or Edge.
- If it persists, ask in Discord and say what you were doing when it broke.
